Imagine discovering a palm-fringed oasis surrounded by immense golden dunes, then climbing into a powerful dune buggy and racing across the desert. In Huacachina, the landscape itself becomes part of the adventure.

This experience takes us to one of Peru’s most iconic desert destinations, where the calm waters of a natural oasis meet an endless sea of sand. From exploring the oasis to riding across the dunes and trying sandboarding, this is a journey designed to experience the desert rather than simply observe it.

Itinerary

Huacachina & sandboarding – Adventure in the desert

Lima – The Journey Begins: Our adventure begins in Lima as we travel south toward the Ica region.
The landscape gradually changes from the Pacific coast to extensive areas of desert. Along the way, our guide will introduce us to the geography of the Ica region and explain how this arid environment has shaped the communities and landscapes found here.
Huacachina – The Oasis in the Desert: Upon arriving in Huacachina, we discover one of the most distinctive landscapes on the Peruvian coast: a small oasis surrounded by enormous sand dunes.
Palm trees, calm waters and golden desert slopes create a striking contrast. We take some time to walk around the oasis, enjoy the scenery and capture photographs before beginning the adventure through the dunes.
Dune Buggy Adventure – Across the Golden Desert: The adventure continues with a ride aboard a dune buggy specially designed to travel across the desert.
As the vehicle climbs and descends the enormous dunes, the experience becomes a combination of speed, movement and spectacular scenery. The route takes us deep into the desert, offering panoramic views over the surrounding dunes and the oasis below.
The changing shapes of the sand create a constantly evolving landscape, making every section of the journey different.
Sandboarding – Ride the Dunes: Once we reach the appropriate area of the dunes, it is time to try sandboarding.
Our guide or instructor will explain the basic technique and safety recommendations before we begin. Beginners can start with simple descents, while more experienced participants can enjoy longer and more challenging slopes depending on conditions.
Whether it is your first time or you already have experience, sliding down the dunes offers a completely different way to experience the Peruvian desert.
Sunset over the Desert – A Golden Landscape: Depending on the schedule and conditions, we have the opportunity to pause among the dunes and appreciate the surrounding landscape.
As the sunlight changes, the colors and shadows across the sand become increasingly dramatic. From the top of a dune, the view of Huacachina surrounded by the vast desert creates one of the most memorable scenes of the experience.
Return to Huacachina and Lima: After completing the dune adventure, we return to Huacachina and prepare for our journey back to Lima.
The experience concludes after a day filled with desert landscapes, adventure and a completely different side of Peru's southern coast.
